Yarn Along

Good morning! Joining with Ginny at Small Thing's for this week's Yarn Along . Can you believe that it is already August?!?

I have been slowly making progress on  my sweater, and since I have been back home, and life has slowed down a bit, I have been managing to get in at least a few rows each night. However, I have set some lofty goals for myself... I am taking a trip at the beginning of next month, and was hoping to bring along this sweater, as well as a vest (that I haven't started).... which means I have a lot to knit in just a few weeks.

I am currently reading The Soul of an Octopus, by Sy Montgomery, one of the books from my summer reading list. I was waiting on hold for it at the library for a long time, and just couldn't wait any longer and bought it for myself. Just to put that into perspective, I think the last time I bought a new book for myself was several years ago when I was in a book club! I love the library. Anyways, I am almost done with the book and have been really enjoying it. Although, I must admit, I chose to read this book because I have a bit of a love affair with octopuses. They are simply amazing creatures. Don't believe me? Check out this ted.com talk that I show to my fall class every year. The best part is from 4:15 and on. They are so fascinating! The Soul of an Octopus is a non-fiction book, that mostly reads as a story. It's full of lots of great tidbits about octopuses, as well as an inside look into their personalities. It makes me want to find a way to hang out with one.

I took my yarn along photo in my garden today because the squash vines growing throughout my yard remind me a little bit of the arms of an octopus..... don't you think?

What are you reading? What are you knitting?

  1. Lovely photo. Good luck getting your knitting done in time!
I unfortunately buy lots of books as our local library only has a small english section (I'm way to lazy to read in french at night) and nobody in my book swap club seems to read anything I find interesting!!!

    1. Yes, I know that I am so lucky to have access to a good library system. In my sister's last home she lived in, they were in an unincorporated part of her town, and they weren't allowed to check out book from the library unless they paid a very large membership fee each year. My seven year old reads many (maybe 10) books a day, so I don't know what we would do if we couldn't check out books!
