3 Times Around the Sun

My baby turns 3 today. And I guess she is not so much a baby anymore.  She talks, non-stop, about things beyond my imagination. She is fiercely independent and often, if I do something for her, she will un-do it and do it again, herself. She loves to talk to strangers; her newest line is "Hi, how's your day?". She has been on roller coasters, wants her hair dyed (so we have settled for hair chalk), and has begged me to get her ears pierced. So, I guess she's not really a baby anymore. But, she is my baby, and always will be.

Happy Birthday Miss Phoebe!

  3. We had a 3 year who loved to play dress up and wear my high heels. She also announced on her third birthday she WAS getting her ears pierced. It was hard to realize she was growing up. Like your daughter, she started begging to have her ears pierced. It was almost a constant banter.

She really wanted them SO BAD and would hold anything that resembles an earring up to her ears every chance she got. She was a little fashionista and kept getting my “pearl earrings” out from my jewelry box. One day, I was working in the kitchen when daddy calls out to me from the family room asking me to come in there. Sandi had gotten my 5 mm pearl earrings out and was asking dh how to put them in her ears! She almost put one in her ear canal! Dh laughed and told me to take her to have them pierced before we had to take her to the ER to remove an earring! Of course she was wanting to look like mommy so I couldn’t be too upset with her :) Admittedly, it was funny, but I thought maybe it was maybe time to take her to have her ears pierced, but I was unsure. I bought her some stickers and magnetic earrings, but she wanted MY pearls in her ears.

I called our pediatrician and was surprised when she encouraged me to do it when mommy could care for them. She sent me some ideas she'd put together for moms having their daughters ears pierced and recommended Piercing Pagoda.

On the way to PP, I was pretty sure she would back out. NO WAY! I told my daughter we were going to get her "pretty ears" and it might hurt a little as I pinched her ear lobes. She said, "...are we there yet?" I had her ears pierced and followed our ped's suggestions making it a good experience for both of us. She barely shed a tear and was so excited to have earrings. Guess what she picked out? You guessed it, pearls like mommy.

Since your little girl sounds a lot like mine, I don't think it will be long till she may more vocal in her desire to wear earrings like mommy. If you've been thinking about it, then your mommy intuition may be telling you to start planning about having her ears pierced. If so, then be prepared and let me know if you need our ped's tips.
