Happy Yarn Along! Joining with Ginny of Small Things today....

Well, I finally finished Phoebe's poncho. I am happy with it, although, seeing it on her, I think I should have weaved the ends in much father, as they sometimes peak out. Oh well. Live and learn. Sadly, Phoebe is not much of a fan yet. I think the no-arm thing is weird for her. But, I have been calling it her "poncho moncho", which she thinks is hilarious, and I am hoping she will grow to love it. I have been knitting it forever... she had better give it some love. The poncho pictures are only OK... hoping to get some better ones soon!!

Currently I am working on Phoebe's Halloween costume. I have several new projects on the to-start list, but somehow I don't have the correct needles for any of them! I need a trip to the craft store tomorrow, I think!

I am still reading Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey. I will be reading it forever, I am pretty sure. hehe.

Our Weekend

We had the most fabulous weekend. The weather was amazing! Cool crisp mornings, with sunny warm afternoons. Perfect fall days. It doesn't get any better.
The kids and I started off the weekend on Friday afternoon by going on a little adventure. We went with some friends to a local natural area and hiked around. We heard lots of frogs and saw wooly bears, slugs, and even a snake.
Saturday morning we headed to Lincoln City (on the Oregon coast) for their kite festival. The weather was gorgeous! Even during the summer months warm clear days are rare on the Oregon coast, so this was a special treat. The kite festival was just OK... soon after we got there, the winds died down and by the time we left there weren't even any kites flying. But the warm sun and sand was all I really needed.
Sunday the kids and I went to Oxbow Park and went in search of "cool stuff". And we found a lot. Tons of mushrooms (not for eating), spiders, weird leaves, cool rocks and birds.
Sunday night, I hosted a naked ladies party (a ladies clothing swap). It was so fun to have some time with the ladies, and I came home with some new (free!). clothes.

Yarn Along

Happy Yarn Along! Joining with Ginny of Small Things today for the first yarn along of October. How did that happen so fast???

The colder wet weather and my trip to the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival over the weekend has inspired me to knit. I have started a bunch of new projects, and have put many more on my immediate to-do list. If there were only more time in the day! Over the past week I have finished a pair of arm warmers for Phoebe and another that will be a Christmas present (yes folk, Christmas knitting has officially begun!). I am also working on parts of a Halloween costume (can you guess what it is?), a hat for a newly arrived baby, and I am still working on  Phoebe's poncho. The bottom rows are in seed stitch, and it is taking me about 20 minutes to do one row. Yikes! Thankfully, I only have about 6 rows left... and then about 5 hours of weaving in ends! Hoping I can finish it off by next week's yarn along (oh, the pressure!).

 I am still reading Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey. It is pretty intense and haphazard writing, which is pretty par for the course for Kesey, but it is taking me awhile to plod through it. The book is set on the Oregon coast though, which keeps me reading, especially with all of the references to the never-ending rain, which is what it has been here these past few days.

Moments in Nature

Living in a city, it is necessary to make time for nature. Sometimes, the urge to go is so strong that nothing could stop me. And other times we get so wrapped up in school, work, appointments, and life, that I realize it has been many days, sometimes weeks, since I have been away from the city bustle and had some quiet time among the trees.
Our schedule is currently too variable for me to set aside a specific afternoon each week to spend time in nature, but I want to make it a point to go and find some wild- even if it is a little patch within the city- each and every week. I want to learn the names of more of the birds and plants that grace my neck of the woods, and I want my children to learn them too. I want to find and admire rocks, and bring a few home as treasures. I want to breathe deep standing amidst the trees, feel that sense of awe wash over me, and share that feeling with my littles.
The past few days have been much too rainy to enjoy any time in the woods, but we had a couple adventures last week before the rains hit. Hoping that the weather clears a bit this week, as I have the itch to hike and explore!

Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival

  

Today, my knitting pals and I braved the downpour and headed to Canby, Oregon for the annual Flock and Fiber festival. As always, there was amazing yarn and wool for sale-- and just being around all of that wool got my creative wheels spinning.... oh, the potential! We saw some gorgeous batiks, some amazing needle-felted creations, and plenty of adorable animals. The bleats from the sheep make me laugh every time; I swear it never, ever gets old.
I almost left the festival without buying anything except a mocha, but just before leaving, some yarn caught my eye. It was gorgeous and was perfect for a project I had in mind, but it was a bit out of my price range. As I was leaving, the shop owner stopped me and offered it for half off, as it was the end of that colorway. It made my day!
I mainly took photos of the animals, as they were just so cute. We saw teeny-tiny babies and got to watch a goat being shorn. The dreary weather made for less than ideal photos, but it was so much fun I have to share them anyways.
