Cloud Dough
Inspired by Courtney's post, over at A Life Sustained, I decided to make some cloud dough for my kids. Not only is it a great sensory tool for Finn (who has Sensory Processing Disorder) but it involves getting your hands dirty, which Phoebe is all about.
The original recipe calls for baby oil, which we don't use, so didn't have around the house. Courtney substituted mineral oil, but we didn't have that either. And, I didn't want to make a trip to the store. So, I decided to use canola oil instead. I had to double the amount of oil, but it worked! And it's edible if need be (which is good because the dogs definitely had a few tastes).
To make your own: Mix 8 cups of flour with 2 cups of canola oil. Add measuring cups, spoons, or other toys. Then, play!
The funny thing is.. Finn was excited and wanted to help me make it. But, then wouldn't touch it once it was finished. It's not gross or slimy, and actually feels lovely to play with. In fact, Phoebe didn't want to stop. I saved it in a small storage bin, so I will pull it out again soon. Hopefully next time I can overcome Finn's sensory hesitations...
Great idea. Thanks for the recipe. I could do this with my grandkids.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely idea. Thanks for the recipe. My wee one still puts everything in his mouth, so this is wonderful for him!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that P enjoyed it! We've broken it out a couple times since I posted about it and every time it's a hit. :)
