Summer Shorts and A Belated Easter Bonnet (Finally)

Summer is approaching, or so they say.... the weather in Portland has been cool and rainy, so it doesn't feel like it, but I know it will be warming up sometime soon. Finn is in dyer need of shorts. He has had an enormous growth spurt lately, and my 3 year old is now wearing 5T, and almost nothing fits him. So after a fairly unsuccessful search for shorts at the used kids clothing store, I decided to make him a pair. I didn't use a pattern, but just traced a pair of hand-me-down shorts that still fit so that I would get the sizing right. To make your own, you can follow the instructions I posted a while back about making toddler pants. Anyways, I think they came out cute. I was worried about how cotton-fabric shorts would look, but I made them long and like the results. I wanted to whip up another pair, but haven't found any fabric that is both mama and Finn approved.
And, in the girl world, I finally finished Phoebe's Easter bonnet. Easter you say? Yup. I bought a pattern and material for this adorable bonnet about 2 weeks after she was born, with intentions to make it for Easter. Then, with a new baby, and the realization that we weren't even doing anything on Easter for her to wear a bonnet to, it sort of fell by the wayside. But, I was determined to finish it before June arrived. So, Monday night I whipped it up (with a full day to spare!). The pattern is the Storybook Woods Bonnet, and it is super cute. It was actually my first time EVER following a sewing pattern, and it was actually easier than I thought (although I think this was a pretty simple pattern). It did take a lot longer than I thought because I normally don't pin anything (and that is probably why everything I make comes out slightly crooked!). I made it in a medium so it would fit her for the fall since I sort of missed the boat on spring

  2. Your bonnet turned out adorable! It will be great for protecting a pink fuzzy head from the sun(that is if we ever get any this summer);)
